Been a DN since 2017 and I’ve seen it all.
Some see it as an opportunity to start/ grow their business while keeping their costs relatively lower than back home (i.e they’re not making a lot or any money but they’re also not spending 5k a month on rent in NYC)
Some people just make enough to sustain their travels and (e.g teaching english online (~30k a year).
Some people run multi-million dollar companies and just don’t see the point in living in SF. I’ve seen a lot people people like that than you can image.
Some people work in tech as devs, PMs and make (100-300k a year)
Some people have your run of a mill lawyer/ architect/ accountant job.
As edcRachel said, being a DN isn’t a career it’s just something people do 😊
