News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

I know most of you want to answer IGNORE REDDIT!!, WE ARE SO MUCH BETTER!!, USE ONLY THE FEDIVERSE!! which I do, but there are several problems with it:

the fediverse sometimes looks like a cult, only a marxist one: China and Russia are good, there are concentration camps in Ukraine, Ukraine belongs to Russia, like Taiwan belongs to China, Israel is a genocidal state, China is so much better than the US...

Some mods on lemmy show the same level of intolerance as some mods on reddit.

I stopped using reddit years ago but I still lurked because some communities there, mostly the non ideological ones, don't have an alternative: on lemmy there are so many subs with absolutely no content, or one post written 4 years ago, 20 users and 1 visitor per month. That's not an active community.

reddit won't stop its enshittification but for the time being there is no alternative for the communities I'm interested in, mostly non ideological ones about medicine, nursing, philosophy, religion, dementia, autism, biology...

And I'm not looking for communities were medicine, biology or dementia are used as an excuse to rant against the current POTUS or to introduce me to the greatness of communism, I really only care about the topics I mentioned.

For some websites that require a log in I use archive.ph but I don't see how this would work with reddit.

Any ideas? I'm not creating an account with reddit.

I don't understand though.

I don't block anyone or any instance and the tankies are barely a problem I notice.

They represent a fringe group that gets downvoted to hell whenever they open their mouth.

I really don't understand this perception that Lemmy is a tankie cult.

However, Israel is a genocidal state, WTF does this have to do with the other things mentionned? It's the mainstream view.

EDIT: My instance blocks hexbear and lemmygrad and I was blissfully unaware.

I don't block them either, I find them amusing

[–] despoticruin@anarchist.nexus 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You are likely on an instance that blocks them for you, most sane ones do.

Israel is a genocidal ethnostate that needs to be stopped.

Russia and NK both have systematic corruption issues that run deep enough to not believe any of their propaganda, even the stuff made by other nations or interests. With that in mind the corruption itself is obvious and tells of fundamental issues in governance and civil structure on its own.

China ran over thousands of protesting students in Tiananmen and has committed far worse atrocities in the decades since.

The US is a straight up fascist authoritarian state that is on the brink of collapse.

Cuba has managed to become the best sales pitch Communism ever had with their continued resilience in the face of global sanctions and embargo.

Pineapple is delicious on pizza.

At the end of the day people are going to have opinions on all of that, and the magic of the fediverse is that I can make posts like this to weed them out pretty easily.

All that being said this is still one of the more radically left leaning social spaces regardless of where you happen to fall on the politics personally. I can understand the conflation with tankies just because there is a lot of focus on the same solutions but with wildly different takes on how to implement them.

Yeah, sh.itjust.works blocks hexbear and lemmygrad. Not .ml, though.

Oooh, I see, thanks.
