If she's actually 17, it's not the craziest age difference considering he's still really young too. But to even think of risking it like that when you're an NBA player is wild.
Age and location is whats important in deciding the legalities
Legalities sure. But what’s weird to me is morally how it changes for some people depending on if he was in one state vs the other. Like if it was in OKC and it was perfectly legal people will go “ehhh it’s a little weird but no big deal.” If he’s a couple states over its “omg he’s a sick pedophile he should lose his career.”
Because the age of consent laws are not based on anything rational or scientific.
So do you think that more rational and scientific consent laws would mean for higher, or lower ages, on average?
If you wanted to be scientific you would have to make decisions on a case by case basis and judge the intellect and maturity levels of the parties in the case each time. There is no scenario a specific age is scientific. At least is should be a range.
There has to be an age of consent and the legislature decided that's what it was. That's plenty "rational" As for scientific, it it was scientific it would need to be something like 25 since the human brain isn't fully developed until around then.
You don't need to be at your peak intellectually to decide to have sex. Sex is a very basic thing. You just need to be mature enough to understand what you're doing.
You don't need to be at your peak intellectually to decide to have sex, but the decision making parts of your brain are not fully developed until you are 25.
