I like how functionally iron man 1 negates the plot of the first Avengers movie because stark made a pocket fusion reactor that would absolutely eliminate the energy demands of the world and remove the need tk research the teaseract as an alternative energy source.
But Tony also was a self indulgent billionaire who wanted the technology bordering on magic to himself. Yes, it COULD have negated the plot, but didn't
He can't plug the whole world on his chest. IM2 specifically starts with him telling Congress "it's mine, you can't have it." Extrapolate.

Yes. If they had kept up with Stark pushing for clean energy and environmentalism, it would have made his opposition to Thanos's eco-fascism more interesting. Instead, Thanos just represented how rich people view all environmentalists. A threat to their private jets.
