I saw that movie for the first time one week ago. It was worse than I thought: boring stuff for one hour, plays the NES as an advertisement, the end.

It was only really amazing if you were a kid in 1989 who played NES which almost all kids did back then. I can definitely see how it wouldn't seem like such a big deal if you saw for the first time as an adult in 2026. The upcoming Super Mario Bros 3 game was a huge deal as was Fred Savage and Christian Slater gave it a certain cool factor because he was an actor in movies everyone's older siblings watched. I was like 8 at the time and I think Jenny Lewis was my first movie crush lol

Definitely. I remember seeing a trailer and was like: they play video games? On stage? The same thing i play at home? They compete?? It was such a novel idea to me that the movie was just amazing no matter what. I also watched a lot of wonder years
