Home automation is the residential extension of building automation.

It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

Warning: Working with electricity can result in injury, property damage, or even death if it is not done properly. Please keep this in mind while assisting others. If you are not sure about what you are doing, hire a licensed professional.

I’m in the early stages of tinkering with an idea on an analog dashboard. Very retro jetsons or maybe a little vacuum tube aesthetic, about 10” x 24”, and has about 20 or so dials, switches, and sliders on it.

I want to map them so that I have a “screen free” access to my most used automations. Lights, routines, volume knobs, etc.

I’ve been searching around for someone who’s done this already, but in haven’t seen it yet. In have a feeling it can be accomplished with a little dedication and some creative ITTT.

Has anyone tried something like this?

It's pretty trivial pi gpio to mqtt exists and that gets you to any reasonable hub.

Rotary encoders would be a bit harder to deal with but analog pots are trivial.

Once they are in your hub automate away.
