Home automation is the residential extension of building automation.

It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

Warning: Working with electricity can result in injury, property damage, or even death if it is not done properly. Please keep this in mind while assisting others. If you are not sure about what you are doing, hire a licensed professional.

I have WIZ bulbs in the ceiling fixtures of my office at work. I use my phone to control the lights only on occasion, usually if I want to change brightness or color while I’m in the office. The rest of the time I control them with the basic wall switch (that means when the switch is off there’s no power and I can’t turn them on with my phone, but I don’t think my phone is capable of recognizing that they’re powered off). I’m setting up a Christmas tree in my office for the season, and I’d like to figure out a way for the Christmas tree to turn on whenever I turn on my office lights (ya know, cause lazy).

Short of changing the wall outlet to a smart one (not possible in my office), is there any way to connect these two systems?
