Overview:

Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

TLDR: People aren't very good and using regenerative braking in a smooth manner.

Definitely had an Uber driver in LA .ame me sick. Dude had a puke bag ready...( I used the door method and didn't mess the car...) ...I mean he could have just drive nicely

Yeah, I got an EV ride on Lyft in Seattle once, wasn't very long. But once I got to my destination I hurled. I drive an EV, to me, part of the "fun" is making the smoothest stops and starts possible. The Lyft driver was the opposite. The regen felt like it was on max, and he would go full pedal to the metal to no pedal at all.

People have been driving like this way before EVs... people just are shit at driving. Had a coworker long ago that I rode with one time, and he did this shit on the fucking highway. Speed up like 15 mph over the speed limit then brake hard to get his speed back down. Then on the roads, every stop or go was foot to the floor or brake, didn't matter. Dude just was shit at driving, and most people are shit at driving.

Before I knew about one pedal driving I thought Tesla drivers drove with one foot on the brake and one on the throttle because their brake lights would shine constantly

Humans have adapted to associate sound with movement in vehicles, experts explain. Because electric vehicles don't have the auditory cues and vibrations from the engine that we're used to, which indicate when the car is accelerating, this could trigger motion sickness, Di Giulio says.

Another reason is regenerative braking, the process whereby when drivers release the accelerator, the motor starts acting as a generator. This creates resistance that slows the car down and also produces electricity that can be stored in the battery. The accelerator needs to be released gently, or it can lead to harsh deceleration.

"It forces the person to perhaps feel like they're rocking back and forth for that brief moment when the speed of the car suddenly changes," says Hac.

This is something Carolyn Le, 24, from California, has noticed. She gets "horrendous" motion sickness when her friend drives her in his electric vehicle in busy cities, she says. The regenerative braking means it "constantly feels like the car is stopping all the time".

"It's actually horrendous," says Carolyn Le, who blames regenerative braking for her motion sickness

Electric vehicles can also accelerate and decelerate much more quickly than conventional combustion cars, which Di Giulio says can cause motion sickness.

Most drivers mash pedals and are either accelerating or braking.
