That would require security updates etc to be done longer for phones so banking software and the rest will carry on working.
This but also not requiring a smartphone for banking in general.
the iPhone is right there, you can get an SE for ~499?
The 11 which came out pre-covid still gets regular updates alongside the other phones.
This is a uniquely Android problem.
Or make phones that just phone. It wasn't that long ago they were like that. People didn't carry around direct access on demand and we didn't fucking die, we just didn't have instant gratification.
It would suck but we'd survive it.
