International calls while abroad (alien.top)

When you're abroad and need to have a long phone call, such as to the local office of an airline in a different country, or to a bank/broker or government agency back in the US, how do you normally do that? Let's assume you have a local SIM or are using Airalo. Do you use something like Skype Out?

I have a couple of SIMs with WiFi calling and IDD rates cheap enough that I decide it's not worth dealing with other apps.
