Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

Has anyone recently imported harddrives from us to Canada? I'm planning on ordering 6x (possibly 12x) 14tb harddrives through eBay. It has been a very long time since I've used ebay so want to know what I should expect and at what point it is more worthwhile buying from a Canadian vendor.

I'm assuming usps is still the cheapest way to ship duty/brokerage wise? How much did duty and brokerage cost?

Also open to suggestions on Canadian vendors (currently looking at referb HGST or Exos).

Use a forwarding service, most sellers do free shipping in the states.

Pay the fee to use the service, pay taxes.

Avoid any massive brokerage charges.

The shipping cost alone US to Canada cost more.

If your in the GTA send me a pm. I can send you a referral. They have 8 locations for pickup iirc
