If people think D'Antoni is too old to coach at 72 well Popovich is 74 and is still coaching.

D'Antoni has turned around a lot of franchises Suns in the 2000s leading them to 4 consecutive playoff appearances with 2 WCFs. He also lead the Rockets to 4 consecutive playoff appearances and was 1 win away from the Finals.

He hasn't coached since getting fired from the Rockets in 2020 and it seems like no team is pursuing him as a coach anymore.

He could 100% have a coaching job if he wanted to no question at very minimum as an assistant. But also could pretty easily get the HC job at a number of teams. But most of those teams suck and he doesn’t want to coach them lol. The thing is D’antoni, much like a lot of other successful head coaches, don’t want to coach a team he does not think they can contend and more importantly if he does not think they can run his offense.

I think he is just enjoying being an advisor for the Pelicans right now because he is legit being paid to just watch games from his couch and occasionally call the coaching staff and say “you should try more small ball”
