1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't fork-bomb your computer.

    Define "Normal".

Linux is fantastic for the low end user that really needs a calculator and a web browser. It really only has pain points for people in the mid tier that don't understand technology, but have to use it a lot for work. It's a big old bell curve.

True but most people are in that middle group of users. I thought my mom would always be below it, so I set her up with Ubuntu and showed her how to open the web browser. But it wasn't long before her siblings were suggesting she install a mahjong app to play with them, or goofy camera filters for their video calls. After being reasonably sure they weren't spyware, I still had to break the bad news to her: "Sorry mom, Windows only."

She's currently running a refurbished ThinkPad with Windows 10 pro.

🙄 oh God here we go with not understanding tech.

You can understand technology and dislike Linux DE. It's so condescending.

    [–] Adanisi@lemmy.zip 6 points 9 months ago

"Linux DE" is not a thing. There is no one "Linux DE".

If you understood technology, you would explicitly know why tracking within windows is dangerous. Either way. Its not a very good look for you.

    🙄🙄🙄

Again with the condescension. Assuming your values have anything to do with my technical skill.

Your technical skills won't save you from your own loud mouth

Hmm you seem to denigrate people for not understanding tech while seemingly giving up your privacy and $100 for Microsoft.

Do you understand not being ripped off?

Nah. I've never had to spend hours dicking around fixing Wayland. That's worth its weight in gold.

Nobody is breaking Wayland except seemingly you. What are you doing that Wayland breaks for you regularly?

Edit: You know, Now I understand Microsoft's business model. There's always a fool like you to buy their spyware and then go to bat for them for free.
