Liminal spaces are the subject of an Internet aesthetic portraying empty or abandoned places that appear eerie, forlorn, and often surreal. Liminal spaces are commonly places of transition (pertaining to the concept of liminality) or of nostalgic appeal.

Same. Recently went to Seattle and my family was weirded out that I was almost more enthralled by the massive amounts of concrete structures and huge metal industrial complexes and shipyards than the ocean. Metal and steel structures, even when rusted over just make me feel this surreal calm. There’s also something so beautiful about blackberry bushes growing over brutalist concrete structures, even if it’s just a highway overpass
I'm in complete agreement, I honestly really like the look of industrial buildings, urban decay, etc. I do a lot of nature and landscape photography but what got me started in the first place was Liminal Space and abandoned or worn down buildings. Just kind of reminds me of driving around the more run down parts of the city with my dad when I was younger. I have a picture I'm particularly fond of that I need to dig around for, of some vines and red leaves growing down over the open door of an abandoned garage that I need to upload.
