That's fine and easy on desktop/web browser, but for mobile devices it is not quite as easy. You would either need to use a hacked version of the app or a third party app.

On my phone, I just access YouTube through the firefox browser app with ublock origin installed. Works perfectly.

Or use NewPipe if you don't need to sync with your Google account.

Firefox browser w/ublock = YouTube with no ads.

I actually just have YouTube app disabled.

On mobile, I don’t use the app. I use safari + youtube.com with vinegar app and adguard.

No ads plus I get PIP. Quality is a hit or miss but idc about that.

I can recommend Unwatched wholeheartedly, great developer, but I only use yt for subs not algorithm
