Never mind that LLMs are a far cry from AI.

They are literally AI, neural networks specifically. As are path finding algorithms for games.

People just don't get what AI is. Any program that simulates intelligence is AI.

You're likely thinking of general AI from sci-fi.

I don’t know about you, but I would consider writing papers/books/essays/etc. (even bad ones) and code (even with mistakes) intelligent human behavior, and they’re pretty good at imitating it.
