You missed the point.

This is not a medicine for insomnia and is extreme overkill for that condition.

Especially given all the sedative hypnotics available that are for insomnia instead of using

a very strong tranquilizer not meant for sleep disorders.

I hope that clears things up.

I never said the medicine was bad for the right intent and don't know how that was implied to you.

What made me think that is the exclamation mark at the end of your sentence. "Hey, this is important, oh no, watch out!"

You got a study or credentials to go with your advice or are you just spouting uninformed bullshit on the internet?

Since I beat you to it, it is uninformed bullshit. Trazadone is an antidepressant, not a tranquilizer. It's being studied to maybe be used with other medications as a mild treatment for schizophrenia, priapism is a rare side effect, and it has long been used for mild insomnia.

It’s not “extreme overkill” or some sort of emergency-room chemical straightjacket.

Trazadone is an antidepressant, not a tranquilizer. Trazodone has been around as an antidepressant for over 60 years, but it became popular more recently as a sleeping pill. Trazodone can have a sedative effect, which is why it's used to help people sleep. Taking trazodone won't fix a sleep problem. Trazodone does have some serious side effects.

I have taken it, have you?
