I don't even use Pixelfed, but its growth is kind of interesting to me:
- its recent rise
- its subsequent plateau
- its (expected) ebbing
The ebb lasted a lot longer than I was rooting for. But now it seems to have caught a recent uptick. Still slight in terms of its maximum peak, but respectable: 47K Monthly Active Users. (about the same as the total number of MAUs on Lemmy!)
Furthermore, it's also reflected in the half-year Active Users, meaning it's not just people who signed in a couple months ago who are now checking back in -- looks like brand-new active participants.
Any idea what caused this? Another "migrate" campaign? Did Instagram do something stupid again? Or is it just a data glitch?
I'd love to try it at some point and check the features of it. Do they also have some sort of "reels"?
Pixelfed allow videos but they are so rare. The creator has another app for short vidos

Loops is still in Beta rn, and it's rough lol. Never was a Tiktok person so it might feel even worse for them.
Isn't federated yet, but will be when Dansup makes it worthwhile.
yeah, i couldn't find the app yet. but let's see. i haven't been using tiktok, but seen some reels and video content on reddit. some people are creative and funny, and if the app doesn't force you to continuously scroll your feed, it's fine—just another format
