I'm struggling with the concept of people putting effort into using uBlock Origin with Chrome.

I have to use Chrome to access a couple of sites that don't play nice with Firefox.

I bet those sites will play nice if you switch your user-agent to display as chrome.

Is there an easy way to do this? I tried it for YouTube cause they slow Firefox down to a crawl but it didn't seem to do anything. Maybe the extension I downloaded was at fault but I couldn't find an easy way to just do it in Firefox without an extension.

This is the Firefox extension I use, I would check the headers your browser passes with WhoAmI to verify your user-agent, alternatively you can use invidious to get around YouTube’s bullshit.

I host a public Invidious instance for folks with a Canadian IP - https://inv.halstead.host/

If they don't play nice then fuck em

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 10 months ago

Doesnt always work like that.

That's my general attitude, but I need these for work.

My new rent portal is one of these sites. Can't just not pay rent because I don't like chromium browsers.

Rent portal? You mean bank account with direct debit and/or electronic transfer. What is a rent portal? How can you possibly benefit from having a website just to act as a middle man to collect your personal info?

[–] JandroDelSol@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Ah yes, because you get to choose how your landlord collects rent.

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Because not everyone has a bank account. Some people get paid via a cash card or similar (as an alternative to paper checks or direct deposit if they don't have a bank account). This allows them to pay in alternate ways. But additionally all trouble calls/maintenance requests are done through that same portal. I signed my lease through it.

Then you use Chrome for sites that require it and Firefox for everything else.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 2 points 10 months ago

Precisely what I do

[–] RageAgainstTheRich@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I use Firefox on everything EXCEPT my Steam Deck. Firefox will not let you open the dropdown menu to exit, make videos fullscreen etc. And when a notification pops up, your firefox is now 100 by 30 pixels...

I wish they would fix it already...

I can use firefox in desktop mode but i don't like having to switch to desktop mode and wait for everything. Then switch back to play something.
