Source is KeplerL2, who is generally considered a reliable source for insider hardware info, particularly on AMD GPU hardware and AMD SoC for consoles.

Previously I would have personally estimated Steam Deck 2 to release mid 2026-early 2027, but the recent info about an upcoming Steam Machine made me think that maybe I should push back that estimate.

Of course even if we assume this is reliable insider info, a lot can change in couple years, so things can definitely change.

Maybe if they could make the steam deck 1 actually available in aus/nz first so we can actually purchase them instead of everyone just having nintendo switches idk just a thought

Thanks but things tend to have voltage or compatibility issues when made for a different market

Voltage won't be an issue, it's just USB c

The Steam Deck, like most mobile devices, don't have issues with voltage as most don't deal with it. It's their charging cables that do that, which are external.

In the Steam Decks case, you just need a plug adapter as the stock USB plug that comes with it is rated for 110-240 volts. Your voltage is 230 volts, so no problems.

I've already had to do this, so already know it works. I've used my Canadian Steam Deck (110 volts) in Ireland (230 volts), and well as in Korea (220 volts). All I needed was a plug adapter, not a voltage adapter.

If you are still worried though, the Steam Deck is powered completely through USB C so you could just get a different USB C adapter to charge it. The stock plug charges at a rate of 40 watts, but can go slower though charging speed will show.

It's 5 volts no matter where you are because you charge it via USB.

It's been officially available in Australia since 2024. I don't know about NZ though.
