Home automation is the residential extension of building automation.

It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

We have a traditional thermostat in an awkward to reach place, so I'd like to replace it with something I can stick to the wall.

I've got a few shelly devices running already, so the Shelly TRV comes to mind, but that only takes care of the receiving end. Ideally I want some kind of simple rotating knob or slider, battery powered and connected to wifi.
I have home assistant set up so anything that works with it is fine, though nothing that requires a cloud connection. I'd very much like to keep it budget friendly, so avoid fancy displays or even touch screens etc. Just give me something I can physically grab to crank the heat.

Thats a complete thermostat, the problem sounds like it's not in the room it's heating (for the most part). Typical of a renovation that split an old room apart but they were too cheap to rework the radiators.

There are several TRV's that can use remote temp sensing eve thermo comes to mind but any of them should do the trick.

You can fudge it with the shelly a hub and any temp sensor in the room.
