How much would it cost to own an app?

I’m not a tech savvy person so excuse my ignorance

I googled “how much would it cost to own an app?” And was surprised by the answer, “The minimum app development cost is $5,000-$10,000. A more complex mobile application will cost you around $50,000-$75,000 and reach $300,000+.”

Seriously why is the bar so high?

Ex: a local barber cuts ~500 people’s hair a month, and he wants an app to book appointments, but he can’t afford the $5k-$10k for that then what are his options?

It really depends on a lot of factors. There are so many hidden costs and it's really not one size fits all. Even things such as trademarks or legal etc. I did mine for about $15k and I got 85% of what I wanted.
