The Federal Aviation Administration will reduce flights at dozens of major airports as early as Friday if no shutdown deal is reached, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced at a news conference Wednesday.

Ten percent of air traffic at 40 busy airports would be cut, potentially impacting thousands of flights, though the details of how many and which specific airports will be cut was not announced.

Is there a list of the airports or is this just a random threat

Assuming he doesn't chicken out tomorrow:

It doesn't matter. This is going to fuck up the entire country... and a lot of the world.

Airlines aren't going to say "Welp, no flights out of DEN so let's just leave everyone at whatever airport". It is going to be madness as EVERY flight out of the directly impacted airports are re-routed to the nearest functioning hub (or what counts as a hub). And those airports are going to be pumping out every plane they possibly can to any other hubs they possibly can.

So expect direct flights from DFW to Florida suddenly getting an extra two or three hops to just try to get anyone anywhere.

And international flights? Holy shit...

Like most things: trump and the chuds don't realize how tightly coupled the world is and how you can't just close one airport and laugh at the libs.

I'll just add on: If you've ever been unfortunate enough to get caught in an airport clusterfuck, those surly customer service agents are some of the most psychotic, and surly, wizards with spreadsheets and databases and will do everything they possibly can to get you where you want to go... even if it means you cross the country twice in one day.

The times I’ve been caught in an airport brouhaha, you know what happened? They called out the National Guard.

Maybe that’s the end game here?
