Obviously clickbait to capitalise on United's poor form, but this is actually quite common recently.

Lots of players from lots of clubs are purposely ripping holes in their socks pre-game out of the belief (right or wrong) that the tension is causing discomfort and/or higher risk of injruy.

The holes in socks is more of a trend than anything else. You see it with younger players mostly. It's a thing that caught on. That it cutting holes gives you better movement/freedom.
