Beehaw's community for socialists, communists, anarchists, and non-authoritarian leftists (this means anti-capitalists) of all stripes. A place for all leftist and labor news and discussion, as long as you're nice about it.

Non-socialists are welcome to come to learn, though it's hard to get to in-depth discussions if the community is constantly fighting over the basics. We ask that non-socialists please be respectful and try not to turn this into a "left vs right" debate forum by asking leading questions or by trying to draw others into a fight.

Do you think the recent Hamas attack was the first aggression in a vacuum?

Both Hamas and the Isreali government have committed violence over the years, but you are framing it as Hamas taking the first step and ignoring the fact that Hamas came to power as retaliation against Isreali blockades and violent settlement of Palestine. Both are terrible and both are the aggressors or defending themselves depending on the time frame.

Isreal has the upper hand and is actively committing atrocities in response to an atrocity. Phrasing the current actions by Isreal that is causing a lot of collateral damage to civilians as defending themselves gives them a free pass to do whatever they want, and what a lot of Isreali leadership wants is to kill or drive out Palestians and take their land.
