Hello everyone. I turn 18 years old in december, and want to buy myself a proper watch as a gift to myself.
I really like chronographs and divers and have been looking for something that combines the best of both worlds in my price rage (Max 1000€). I found the Victorinox Maverick Chrono in black when googling around, and i kind of fell in love after trying it on my wrist in a store.
My question to you is: Is this a solid watch? I'm kind of new into the watch-scene (dont know if that is the correct term) so im kind of scared that i will spend a lot of money that i have worked hard for on a watch that i later on find out is of low quality or that will drop in price significantly year after year.
Thankful for all answers, and more options within my budget!
It's a nice watch, yes. Victorinox is an entry-level Swiss brand in terms of watches. It makes solid watches, but they may be somewhat overpriced at retail/list price.
For its list price of U$900 (854.73 euros) there are probably superior alternatives, some of them mechanical.
That said, nearly all watches will decrease in value (much like cars) the moment they leave the manufacturer/authorized dealer. If you're referring to decreases in list price - no, I have not seen Victorinox substantially decrease list prices for its watches. You may, however, find good but discontinued - some new old stock, some used - Victorinox watches on the grey market (e.g. eBay) for much less than their original list price.
Other alternatives:
Glycine (no Maverick-like 3-subdial chronos in that link though)
Hemel Air Wing mechanical chrono
Tissot Supersport chrono
Tissot PRS 516 chrono
Victorinox Fieldforce Sport chrono in black
Bulova Lunar Pilot in black
Seiko Speedtimer Solar Chrono with ice blue dial (limited edition)
Islander Bethpage chrono
RZE Valour chrono with azure blue dial
