Ants running in a circle lost the pheromone trail and keep running in circles until they die.

Or because they're being chased by FENTON!!

[–] dumbass@piefed.social 10 points 2 months ago

Ohhhh Jesus Christ! FENTON!

It's an oldie but it always makes me piss myself laughing... The desperation in his voice, the absolute ignorance of Fenton *Chefs kiss* perfection.

Deer running in a circle lost connection to the hive mind and keep running in circles until they die. So sad

"An ant mill was first described in 1921 by William Beebe, who observed a mill 370 meters (1,210 ft) in circumference. It took each ant two and a half hours to make one revolution."

I'm curious where he found it. Sounds like quite a sight

Apparently, it was in a forest in Guyana. And well, perhaps you're imagining a filled-out spiral, but in this case, it looked like a normal ant migration at the first. They were going in 6 lanes at most and at 370 meters circumference, that just looks like a line until you follow it around.

That's according to this source, which seems to have excerpts from his book: https://themountainsarecalling.earth/the-army-ant-death-spiral/
