Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

I think that The Nazi americans could just make a bloodbath out of us in Latin American and the Europeans (the governments and most of the people) would make excuses for them. (looking at how much European governments and industry profited from the Palestinian genocide

China is making a bloodbath RIGHT NOW and you're supporting China. You blame Europe for possibly doing something in a hypothetical future in your mind what China is doing in the real world as we speak.

Palestinian genocide bad, Uyghur genocide totally fine, despite it being at a MUCH larger scale?

Well lets put it this way, since according to this data of yours, if it's true, both sides are committing genocides and both sides are going to war i will support the side that won't commit genocides towards me. And i will fight the war in the side that won't turn against me and my people.

I will also be very wary of propaganda, because in Latin America, propaganda pushed by the united has been used to overturn governments, make excuses for death squads and legitimize governments that kill thousands. Hell we just saw the propaganda machine of the west trying to bury the horrific deaths in Palestine, lying to our faces like we are imbeciles. While they were not only profiting but actively arming the genocide. In UK and Germany the propaganda for the war machine hasn't even ended, actively arresting protesters; Censorship in big tech social media. And threatening journalists. I feel they could do this to any one of us. They are already aiming for Mexico and Colombia; They already meddled in the elections of Chile and Argentina. Of course i will side with the country that takes up my cause and not the counties that encourages these aggressions.

Then to make things worse; I've been noticing that the Far right is taking a strong foothold in europe: The AfD is gaining a lot of ground in Germany and a lot of German people I've talked with seem to agree with their maxims. There is Meloni in Italy; An open crony for trump; Spain might have a right wing victory as well, and even Starmer's Labor party in England has been making excuses for mass murder. And they might get an even more right wing government next. All of those people don't sound like either "allies" or "civilized" and things are just keep getting worse.

So i will also take with a grain of salt anything that comes from state sponsored news sources from america and it's vassal states in europe. Especially if there is a hint of war intent behind their words.

But wait there is more! This push towards fascism in the west could be the last gasps of a collapsing neoliberal system. Violence could potentially be directed inward as governments see their economies crumble, as corporations gain so much power they turn into modern feudal houses and the impossibility to sustain these contradictions will make governments turn more oppressive to their own people. A lot of countries might collapse without war, but crumble under dying economies and aging infrastructure. And at some time in the future we will need to revaluate our political systems as a whole and establish real mechanisms to protect international law, because the current ones are a laughable joke as we've seen.

Most importantly. The west will need to learn to share a multipolar world. And that might not be so bad. People will finally have choices to live their lives. Maybe we could have a little peace.
