Holy fuck TIL there is an anti-masturbation app.

Wtf

[–] super_user_do@feddit.it 1 points 9 hours ago

Many people are addicted and what to quit. It's a legitimate thing

[–] zeppo@lemmy.world 46 points 1 day ago (5 children)

The US speaker of the house Mike Johnson has mentioned many times how he and his son monitor each other’s masturbation habits through an app

[–] TheSeveralJourneysOfReemus@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Really? Is touching the ding ding dong such a big deal? I'm not saying porn, a healthy guy can find this sex drive without stimulating material.

[–] zeppo@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago

Many Christians believe it is sinful, because generally they are uptight as hell about anything regarding sexuality.

[–] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I think the porn addiction thing is that you train your brain to seek the reward of sexual pleasure through the cheapest means possible: porn. Cheap as in fast, efficient, and often focusing on exactly what you want. Brain learns, “gee, this is a lot easier this way” and suddenly it’s more difficult to feel engaged with the more natural processes for sexy time.

[–] TheSeveralJourneysOfReemus@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I understand this, especially during the past years, as many reports (not the nofap guys on reddit, mind you) showed that porn use and abuse has been on the rise, not surprisingly. But going nofap from the state of hypergooning is also dangerous. I think they should set realistic goal and keep journaling, these apps/services are preying on the frail ones. I learnt the concept of gooning against my will.

It’s like coffee to me. My day feels a little more straightened out as long as one gets rubbed out early in the morning.

There’s really not a comfortable way to say that, is there?

i don't know a guy who doesn'tdo that, really...

[–] Eh_I@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

Maybe that's why he can't keep up with the news? He should turn the notifications off.

[–] melfie@lemy.lol 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Are the app’s servers hosted on Epstein island? A father and son sharing chicken choking habits just sounds creepy.

[–] zeppo@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago

It's quite creepy and I can definitely picture these uptight evangelical Christian type people thinking it's totally normal. So weird.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 0 points 11 hours ago

Lots of countries have their fascists and their dictators but the American right are just plain weird.

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah, what does that even mean? And why would anyone want it?

[–] Glytch@lemmy.world 9 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Because porn addiction is a real thing and some people who suffer from it want help.

[–] Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

As someone who dealt for way too many years with a heroin addiction, I keep reading things like this and wanting to say stuff like 'porn addiction isn't a real addiction.' But TBF I've never had a porn addiction and don't know what it's like, so I can't say that. But there are undeniable differences.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world -3 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

the similarities are far more numerous than not.

porn/masturbation addiction targets the pleasure receptors in your brain and excites your brain to release dopamine.

heroin does the same thing but "louder".

you're not addicted to the drug, you're addicted to the dopamine rush and feelings.

edit: downvote all you want, doesn't make my comment any less factual.

[–] Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not downvoting you, but this doesn't explain why you get extreme physical withdrawals from heroin and not from porn.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

not porn alone.

I guess somebody hasn't masturbated for 10 hours straight before. let me tell you, the backlash is insane enough to call in to work and then feel better enough to start all over for a whole new 12 hour marathon.

besides that, the withdrawal from heroin is the bodies dependency on not only the heroin itself but the dopamine slingshot as well. again, you become addicted due to dopamine not the heroin itself. the drug is simply a vehicle to get the dopamine boost.

I have always had a very high sex drive until I went on some medication that actually kills your libido(side-effect).

At one point I was consuming porn 16-18 hours a day(including sleep). I was going to sleep playing nsfw asmr glucking just to get some restful sleep. I had collected almost 20tb of content. sufficient to say, I had a problem.

my addiction was so bad that at one point I was listening to audio erotica on my way to and from work. you don't know shame until you look at the car next to you at a stop, and there's a disgusted mother staring you down while your car is screaming to "breed me daddy".

Not long after I started my meds, I deleted my entire fap cache. if it wasn't for the meds, I would probably still be doing the same shit. an app like this would have been a nice tool to keep me in check.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

It is incredibly hard to believe that.

I had collected almost 20tb of content.

What were they all in 4K? 20 terabytes of video at 4K is around 7 days of non-stop content. But pretty much all pornography is not high quality stuff so we're looking at more like 22 weeks of content. Also who has 20 terabytes worth of storage anyway?

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

in erotic audio alone I had close to 2tb, close to 80k files if I can remember. most of it you probably couldn't even get anymore since the creators removed them from online.

tens of millions of pictures.

hundreds of thousands of clips/cam rips.

and probably a couple thousand HD videos.

at one time I had software that would watch cams of my favorite models that would fire up a browser and screen record their streams.

I had it spread out across a raid array.

honestly I probably could have started my own porn site if it weren't for all those pesky copyright laws. I did write a frontend too just to make browsing it easier. it had features like slideshows+audio mixing so I could have images of audio content with visual feedback. my favorite was creators that would post both audio and images. something about seeing the person I'm hearing made it way more intimate.

I also had a collage mode for clips and video content. I would pre-select videos/clips and have them automatically fill out the entire page to maximize playing space. from there I could change the volume and size on each video. I wanted to make it so when a video stopped, another video on the list would play, but I was happy enough with looping them.

of course everything could be saved as a playlist and viewed later too.

Can you believe the developers of that app are paying real money for ads for it? I get Quittr ads online and Facebook all the time. Someone is paying money to try and convince me to not to wank. I can't imagine a bigger waste of money.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The part that really blows my mind is that someone is paying for this app..

[–] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (2 children)

Same but then I found out that most people I know pay close to $500/year in subscriptions alone. Some don't even remember all the subscriptions they have! A guy at my work was saying that money was really tight and he saved a ton just by cancelling his Adobe and Capcut subscriptions. That's on top of at least 3-4 streaming platforms as well.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 11 hours ago

I mean in a way I get it. It's easier to just pay subscription services and to have to try and deal with the utterly terrible torrent sites which by the way are no better now than they were 20 years ago.

[–] thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

❌ subscriptions for apps and streaming
✅ the high seas, libre software

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

uBlock Origin (Lite) will make those pesky ads a distant memory.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago

it's a slideshow of Republican appointees.

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I am next to certain this is the app I got to track smoking ages ago, they must have thought I wnked 20 a day at work
