enable developer options
confirm that you are not tricked
restart phone and re-authenticate
wait one day
confirm with biometrics that you know what you are doing
decide if you only want unrestricted installs for 1 week or forever
confirm that you accept the risks
enjoy the few apps that still have developers motivated to develop for a user-base willing to put up with this

This is only a one time thing if you tell it to enable forever when prompted. I'm more concerned a few years down the line, like how bootloader unlocking just keeps growing new hoops.

If that ever happens, they've confirmed that app installs via ADB bypass all this mess, so I expect something leveraging Shizuku (access adb from the phone itself through ADB over Wi-Fi and shenanigans to connect to itself) will come soon.

That said, you'll still have to deal with it the very first time unless you install Shizuku and whatever installer that uses Shizuku/loopback ADB over tethered ADB.
