MODERATORS

Just deleted reddit and working on getting off of facebook. I'm actually glad to be here. It's a bit of an adjustment but I think it's for the better. Cheers everyone.

Welcome. It's smaller, but the people are better. Most of them, anyway. Sometimes some of them are brilliant and amazing, just like on Reddit. Sometimes some of them suck (sometimes including me) but it's not so overwhelming because there aren't as many. Small is beautiful, even if it is a little quieter than you're used to. You'll get used to it though, and it's better for your mental health.

I love it being smaller. I actually read people's usernames here because there is a non zero chance I run across them again in the future and that makes me happy :3

That's definitely a thing I enjoy about lemmy! Old forums were nice because they actually felt like communities. The Centralization of the Internet has meant that it's just a faceless mass of people (and sometimes robots) popping off their hottest takes at every single moment

Upvoting for the E.F. Schumacher reference (and the self-awareness/deprecation!)

I haven't checked Reddit habitually in a while, and it's remarkable what a difference it makes. The Fediverse is a lot less scroll-baity, so I tend to get up from the computer and do other things at more regular intervals. Sometimes I just immediately go back to computer but at least the breaks are more frequent.
