Home automation is the residential extension of building automation.

If your garage has a button attached to it just add a Zen17 relay to the setup to make it smart.
For example 2 wires run from the garage door opener to a switch on the wall. Disconnect the 2 wires going to the wall switch and connect them to C and NO. Then take a new set of wires and connect them to S1 and C on the inputs of the Zen17. You will the be able to control it from the wall and from your Z-Wave hub.
Because OP stated they used myq I am going to assume that the GDO is new enough to have security 2.0+ and will require something like a garadget contact adapter to work using the method you described. Works flawlessly once you have the extra required contact adapter though!
