Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

A different angle to the usual EV transition, they don't have the money to pay for foreign currency so switching to EV's is critical for them:

From September 13, 2024:

In January, the transport and logistics ministry took the radical step of banning all imports of petrol and diesel vehicles, which has forced Ethiopian drivers to convert to electric vehicles. It’s a world-first and surprising decision, given that less than half the population has access to electricity. The reasons for such a radical regulation were “first and foremost an economic strategy," said Yizengaw Yitayih, a senior climate expert at the ministry. "The decree is primarily intended to help us rationalize our foreign currency expenditure."

With a population of 120 million, Ethiopia is up against a severe shortage of foreign currency and is seeking to reduce its dependence on gasoline and diesel imports

All Chinese vehicles, or assembled from Chinese parts.

The chargers are, no doubt, from China as well.

And those EVs are going to need more Chinese parts and batteries for maintenance in their life cycles.

The hydro electric dam, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam that enables cheap electricity, cost US$5 billion, with $1 billion financed by the Bank Of China.

Smart business that!

It's almost like China saw that the future was becoming an electrostate, and took up the mantle from the US, because they chose to suck the dicks of Big Oil.
