Is the Amazon arrow going from a-z cool? Absolutely. I didn't know about that until 15 years after I was using Amazon.
The 10 dollar Logaster Logo worked great for our previous company. This time around our logo is just a large V. We weren't even creative with the colors. White and gray so when placing the logo we only have to wonder if the light or the dark template will work better.
More important than the logo is the consistent look and feel. Not having a mess up on the fonts etc. The simpler you keep all of that, the better off you will be until you can afford to spend a lot of money in creating and maintaining your look and feel. So I would discourage a new business from putting too much effort into their logo. Actually I would tell them to get the logo and name done with and start finding customers. You have zero brand equity until you have customers and can still easily change everything after you have a few customers. But until you have customers, you're not a business.
