He has a very marketable name. No one would know who Mark Fishbach is. Most people don't know who Martin or Charlie Esteves are. And they're kind of widely famous.
It's part and parcel of the marketing. You would have never heard of the movie otherwise. Captain Sensible and Rat Scabies are odd stage names, and yet the Damned are still one of my favorite bands.
They're the less famous family members of Emilio Estevez, right? I think I've seen them somewhere, but the exact source seems quite Illusive, man. Honestly, I think calling them famous is putting a bit of a sheen on the whole thing. They sure think they're real hot shots, but between the three of them, they have about two and a half men worth of acting chops.
You might be thinking of the famous Joe Estevez from the 1996 Popcorn Classic, "Rollergator". More recently seen as President Davidson in the Decker series.
If I had to guess they were talking about Charlie aka moistcritcal or whatever his handle is, who did a voice in Dispatch and (I believe) was credited using his handle and not his real name.
Unless I'm missing some really advanced humour here
Charlie and Martin Estevez go by the last name Sheen in Hollywood
Oh
I know it's marketing, but it seems like a great way to introduce people who aren't aware of (or care to learn about) their YouTube content, to their real name by showing both.
People choose screen names and stage names for many different reasons. Some like Michael B Jordan because Michael Jordan was already the more famous Michael Jordan. However more often than not, they do it for the practice of anonymity or branding. Which are intentionally separate. So it's kind of self defeating to merge the two.
I've watched Markiplier since roughly the mid 2010s. I never cared and he never really broadcast any part of his private life until recently. The reason I know his last name, is only because several outlets felt the need to dig it up and publish it regarding the movie. In years past when he had his mom on for a few streams, she was momiplier. He's always referred to his girlfriend now wife as just Amy. And as far as I'm concerned she can just be Amiplier. We torture celebrity enough.
I have no clue who Markiplier is either to be fair. Literally the first time I’m being exposed to this person.
It is for a lot of people. Who ironically would not have ever heard of him if he hadn't used his screen name. And that's no crime. He was marketing first and foremost to his audience which you aren't in. And that's okay. But it was also smart on his part.
I may be getting old enough to be in old man yells at cloud territory. But honestly hating on someone for a screen name etc is kind of. It's like, cmon man. Get with the sexagenarian kids on this. There was a guy named after a loaf of meat for gods sake. Anyone remember Simply Red? Is Pink still relevant? Iggy Pop, Jonny Rotten, Sid Vicious, Ziggy Stardust? Grand Master Flash, Run DMC, Salt and Peppa, Kid and Play, Hammer? Were Lux Interior or Poison-ivy Rorschach weird stage names? If that makes their music bad, I think I'd rather stay sick. It's all about branding. If it works it isn't stupid.
Right, and when the guy who played Ziggy Stardust did actual movies, what was he credited as? Oh yeah that's right...
Same with Meatloaf in Fight Club. Same as every Kid n Play movie....
meat loaf was credited as meat loaf in the opening credits and meat loaf aday in the end credits
Maybe he was, it's been years since I've seen the movie and was going based on memory.
He was generally credited as David Bowie in most things. Which also wasn't his real name. Meatloaf on most billing was Meatloaf in large letters. I'm sure his name may have appeared in small letters at the end credits in a couple places. But when they wanted people's attention it was always meatloaf.
Honestly though I can't believe someone hasn't already made a game or an app that features all the real names of celebrities and you have to guess who it is. If they haven't I should make it.
I'd heard of him, but never seen a video, didn't even know what he looked like until about 5 minutes ago when I looked him up on Wikipedia.
But he has 38.6 million subscribers on YouTube so there are millions of people who do know him by that name. I think it would be stupid not to capitalize on that fame.
Probably mostly bots tbh.
Are you trying to use Charlie Sheen's birth name to imply people don't know who he is!?
People know who Charlie sheen is. But people aren't all that familiar with the esteves family. Sheen, basically shiny is a silly name. But it's his brand and what the world knows him as.
I also learned that Martin Sheen is a stage name, I didn't realize he was the Estevez patriarch I figured Emilio had beef.
Also obligatory
Because as far as I know only one "Estevez" is famous. However, I think most people would probably recognize Martin Sheen by name as well, although I suppose that is showing my age some.
However, this is the most pointless argument I have had this far down a comment tree is a long time. Thanks for that.
