As a bronze age fan I am very angry about the armor designs among other details and it ruined any enthusiasm I had. Nolan had an opportunity to do something really unique with a really high budget and he didn't.
Edit: This is what standard Mycenaean armor fucking looks like
There is variation in armor design, especially for the wealthier Mycenaeans but fucking none of them look like Nolan's armor. IT'S NOT EVEN FUCKING BRONZE! There's so much creativity and personal touch to some of the Bronze age armor, they are so fucking fascinating and none of that is seen in this movie. I will die angry
I think it really doesn't have to be entirely historically accurate because it's a myth but I'm completely with you on this one. All this steel doesn't make any sense and it doesn't look cool either.
There are so many ways to go about an Odyssey adaption like 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' that puts a very different spin on the story to the point where most people probably didn't even know it was an adaption on their first watch.
Or take 'Epic: The Musical' as recent example. It was released in animated videos to newly written songs on social media and it's pretty phenomenal! Creative liberties are part of its charm.
Everything about Nolan's version looks plain bad and out of time and place. He was clearly trying to make a conservative movie adaption and tried to remove as much mythical stuff as possible. But he clearly didn't do any research so it ended up in the cultural mess of Roman fantasy armor, viking dragon boats and other influences we're presented with in trailers and screenshots. I have little hope this can be salvaged. If anything it's getting worse with every reveal.
People are "fixing it" in post. The Odyssey (But Accurate)

Maybe once the movie hits the high seas they will update the whole movie.
