Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing other users of being bots or paid actors.
- No memes, trolling, misinformation, or low-effort posts/comments (including reposts). If you see posts like this that anger you, do not engage. Report, block, and live a happier life than they do. Any slap-fight is subject to comment removals. Fights full of rule violations will result in temporary bans to cool off.
- No manipulating votes via bots or alt accounts; this will result in permanent bans. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in an account ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be permanently banned.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules and use critical thinking when reading, posting, and commenting. Users that repeatedly have comments or posts removed, weaponize reports, or violate the code of conduct, will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users. The reason(s) behind moderator action(s) are publicly available through the Modlog.

I'm no boomer, but I know how they feel. Who can tell when the next crash will hit, and mega inflation will strike. There is just no real way to know you have enough saved. Unless you are like elon or such. And gieven all that. People are holding on to their money because they may have to help keep their kids afloat. It isn't the boomers making the problem, it's the mega rich scraping every dime they can put of the hands of everyone they can so that they can be secure in their wealth. The bokmers are just a biproduct of that brainwashing.
They were bought. They grew up in a world of plenty. They were sold the idea that it will always be this way as long as they vote conservative. Fox News (and less blatant media) came and pacified them by giving them excuses for being greedy, which enabled the worst wealthy actors to hoard their shit and codify the greed into the both culture and law. They were used to create a system that is fucked and now are confused when the system they built sucks and the world of plenty is being shown to just be a short term golden age.
I wish I could confidently say I'd do better, but probably not. We are products of the world we live in and are shaped by what we see and hear.
I dunno, my limited sample size says the boomers were raised by parents who lived through WWII, so they were raised frugal. Save as much as you can types. Then yes, things were eventually good... the 70's had high inflation I think. So now they hold on to whaterevr they have. But yeah, can't say I would have done better.
100%, I don't think there's a single thing that I would do differently than them on an individual level. Housing was cheap (compared to today). School was cheap (compared to today). Healthcare costs were manageable (again, relative). Being frugal and attempting to have enough retirement to make it through old age is not a vice, that is just sound money management.
The actual sin is making it harder for everyone else coming behind them.
Basically they enshittified government and culture before it was cool, creating stratification layers to benefit themselves when the available alternatives would have been better for society and subsequent generations.
Yeah, they were taught froma young age to look out for themselves financially. And in theory that the gov would take care of those who couldn't. Well the last part was a lie, and the first part was really so that when the rich did it, people would accept it. Kind of like how in books, the cannibles always make new people eat human meat so they are now one of them. Lol.
Yeah, but it's every individual's responsibility to employ critical thought.
If two asshole billionaires named Elon Musk and Donald Trump do a livestream discussion a month out from an election in which they talk about hating worker rights because they get in the way, then maybe, as a worker, I shouldn't vote to give them power.
But they did do that and working class Americans went out in droves and voted to give them power anyway.
I don't absolve boomers because they were tricked. If you get tricked for decades to vote against your best interests and the best interests of your children....then you're a dumb and/or greedy asshole.
They voted like shit for decades. That voting created the environment we are now dealing with.
It's the ultra-wealthy AND boomer's fault.
They were brainwashed starting at a very young age. I doubt most of us here could have seen through it back then.
