I was ready to be shocked by this, but the other comment on the thread makes the correct point. When the law is worthless anyway, it probably feels like a waste of time to even do the performative shit. It's likely always been that way despite Dubya's insistence that warrants were being obtained from courts that were secret due to national security concerns.
Just remember that after the Guthrie abduction, the FBI released video provided by Google Nest that shouldn't have existed because the victim wasn't a subscriber, so you know definitively that every device is spying on you and providing that info to the government.
