Can someone fill me in on how pre-orders can make any sense for buyers even theoretically, if what they buy is an unlimited digital asset?
The only cases I can think of are pre-ordering a few days in advanced to preload if you have crap internet, or if you fully intend on buying the game anyways and there's some sort of bonus for doing so.
It is also easy to refund games on Steam, including preorders, so you do have that escape hatch if the game is obviously fucking crap in the first couple hours. On a console though? No fucking thank you.
