Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

EDIT: The title above should say X20, not X18.

I'm getting a great deal on an Exos X20. However, I don't have a NAS.

What do I need is a reliable, high capacity external HDD that I can use to hoard and carry my data around.

Since these drives use SATA connectors, can you just connect a SATA cable to these drives, plug them into a laptop and use it as an external drive? Would it work?

I have no experience with these helium filled drives and reaching out to the community here to enlighten me whether they could work for the above use case.

Thanks
