Definitely seems like some tinkering is required, but seems like a one time procedure.
I guess the alternative would be to run a console version via emulator

I do hope Valve implement a Community patch system for Proton so these Steam Deck specific tweaks can be easily applied with a few button presses.
this is exactly what Proton-GE does.
Thatβs what protonfixes does however the handful of fixes they have vs the number in comments on ProtonDB leaves a lot to be desired. As I said, it would be great if Valve did this, a la Workshop, so fixes could be voted and applied in Steam rather than flipping to a different build of Proton and a system where fixes are invisible and limited.
Yes, I was wondering if all the tinkering is still required after 1 year. Didn't Ubisoft updated/fixed the Steam version of the game since then? π«€
I just installed it and gave it a test run; can confirm tinkering is still required. Without it, the audio language is French and the game only shows up in a small square and doesn't use the full screen. The game settings (which presumably fixes this) also doesn't work
Would not recommend without tinkering
thank you
I doubt UbiSoft remembers it even exists π
The fact that a 20th Anniversary Edition of BG&E exists leaked today, so you might want to wait for that to be a thing.
