Because redundancy is a good thing.

Fyi I checked the r/unixporn and there is no post about a lemmy instance even tho the owner of this community claims this is an official one.

Not that it being official would make things different, there is no need for the specific set of mods that are on reddit to post rices.

Only Reddit mods are canonical, at best other mods are part of the expanded mod universe (EMU). And that's only as long as they aren't reduced to legends status.

Reddit post will be up soon! We're hesitant to promote lemmy.ml given our poor experience with their admins and their odd behavior regarding /c/unixporn, so we figured moderating a different instance would be a good compromise given how federation works. And while you are correct that our specific set of mods aren't necessary for the community to flourish, we are concerned about unixporn being hurt due to many communities being made and remaining completely unmoderated. We're also looking into finding a different mod team for lemmy. Hope this helps!

Hi, I love the fact that r/unixporn is joining Lemmy! :D But I am still puzzled about why not join the already existing community, why start from scratch again when there is already a foundation to build on top of? Maybe I am missing something important, please educate me :)
