Hi all,

anyone has any experience with this machine for running opnsense? I'm expecting to do mostly vlan, vpn, ad blocking, and general experimentation with opnsense. Do you advise other machines of the same or other brands? I don't expect to spend much money for now as this is mostly to get my feet wet with custom routers

I've been looking into the Futro S920 and even though it seems a great fit, it's a bit too big. I was looking something of a smaller form factor.

While I like the form factor I’m unsure about the built in Ethernet and it’s suitability under openbsd.

I’d try out opnsense and if that fails to work I’d have a look at openwrt. Opnsense just feels a bit more polished but both are more than capable for what you talk about.

If you plan on setting it up as a router-on-a-stick remember you need vlan support on the switch it’s connected to.

That's good advice thank you!

Do OpenWRT and you’ll be golden, but for opnsense, I don’t know

How's power consumption on it?

Absolutely amazinfg, it’s insanely well optimized since it’s made for low power hardware

That's great to hear thank you! I think I'm going for this machine.
