From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Hello folk,

there's this annoying thing from Apple in bluetooth management which is hijacking your (paired of course) bt device in an exclusive way.

Is there a way to force bluez (on linux) to really take the lead? I mean, the device is paired and connected to but somehow, only Apple can play on it when around.

Apple having also this fucking habits to reactivate bluetooth and co after 24h. for the convenience of the user or to be user they could track you? :P

thank you

i know, by definition, apple == annoying

For headphones specifically, you need to keep an audio stream open at all times because apple does the same. As soon as there's just one stream, the headphones will switch to that.

Since you can't turn off apple's bullshit, you will need to connect them to your PC first and have a constant audio stream. As soon as it pauses, apple takes over.

Not sure what's the best way to do that, but having an audio file on loop with extremely low volume will do it.

Hello,

I might not have been clear, sorry. Actually, it is when I activate the headphone, it get immediately connected to the iPhone 20m away while my headphone is litterally on my linux laptop. It does get connected few seconds later but won't be able to play on it. So it is not really a matter of leaving a stream open.

Also, the QC 45 is stated multi-point .

thanks all

So, Apple breaks all multipoint devices unless all connection are from Apple devices? Weird.

I settled on different headphones for pc/linux and phones. I can't afford to have an important call interrupted by something less important from an other device. Also switching from phone to linux takes to much fiddling.

It would breaks if it is the first to connect, usually it is. it messes also with smart tv.

Regarding phone call, I can't tell as my iphone is my phone actually :) But i don't think it would happen with Android, we would have heard about it, even though it uses same bluetooth stack than Linux.

Though, I would like to thank @Oisteink@feddit.nl , indeed, if you disable bluetooth from the Settings (not the drop down panel), it will remain disabled, stupid UX.

note: that I tested with sony and sennheiser bt headsets too.

That would be devastating for battery life.

[–] nottheengineer@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

Not really. As long as you're not actually playing back anything audible, battery life is the same as when you leave them on and don't play anything.

I'm not sure how true this is.

My Jabra 75 is paired and connected via BT with my Android phone and a MacBook Pro. I can hear notifications or podcasts from my phone as long as I'm not actively listening to something on the Mac. I use this dual device always on config upwards of 9 hours a day with no issues.

If you disabled Bluetooth from the control center it will reactivate like you said. If you turn off Bluetooth it stays off
