/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ **8. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Lucille Ball would have made a fantastic captain.

And we thought Janeway was unhinged.

I expect a series of memes with Ball's head sitting on Mulgrew's body very soon.

Bonus points if they also replace Beltran with Arnez.

I kind of want to see Kate Mulgrew in a scene where she's enslaved on an alien planet and forced to work in front of a conveyor belt with chocolates going down it...

"Quickly, Seven, sniff them all and give me the ones that smell like coffee!"

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago

Also, what is Vitametavegamin if not Treknobabble?

[–] sxan@midwest.social 9 points 5 months ago

I'm hoping the fanfic will start flowing. Not with Ball in her "I Love Lucy" persona, but more "The Dark Corner."

Although, I think Janeway was directed this way, with Lucille's dry wit. It wouldn't surprise me if the scriptwriters weren't paying homage to Ball with the Janeway character.

If she was anything like the real Lucy, she would put up with bullshit for about .0003 seconds before telling the officer to get back to their station.

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

She would have been a great captain and every episode would have been wrapped up in 3 minutes.

[–] CptEnder@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago

I'm picturing her ship just warping back and forth to the same place... her exacerbated XO is trying to reign Captain Lucy in.

But it somehow works because she realizes they can create a tear in time to stop a Romulan attack and everyone's like "son of a bi..."

NOW Star Trek is a DesiLu production!

The Cuban provided the name, the redhead provided the grit.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago

If Desi provided the name, surely it would be Estar Trek.

I finally watched that original pilot and it’s soooo bad! I’m really glad she was there.

What ya mean! Haha naw I feel ya. It's a pretty cool concept, but yeah the pacing is a bit slow and repetitive haha. I also like that Pike is one foot out the door at the start. I think the really cool special FX is what saved the pilot episode though. The invisible cage being melted by the phaser and of course the SS Enterprise. My dad said those blew his mind when he saw it back then.

Spock having emotions was a bit trippy though, really glad Gene changed him to "Vulcan" in TOS.

I did like that he was debating sticking around, that felt pretty human, but the blatant sexism was uncomfortable. That bit about “not used to a woman on the bridge… oh but your different..” suuuuper cringe and unnecessary. :p

I’m glad I watched it, but I’m also glad that’s not how it got made, ultimately.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 15 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Star Trek, even when it was progressive for its time, was still of its time.

[–] BubbleMonkey@slrpnk.net 7 points 5 months ago

True. I suppose it’s just because I know how things actually played out with TOS, and it was just jarring and unexpected.

[–] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 months ago

The rest of TOS was not at all spared from this sort of sexism, and worse. The Enemy Within in particular makes me squirm in my seat. I actually really like The Cage as an episode, despite some of those valid issues.

It was filmed in 1964. Granted, the early 60s were a lot like the 50s socially.

I love everything about this.
