Some music subs I like to peruse like r/Headphones, HeadphoneAdvice, BudgetAudiophile, Vinyl etc. If anyone has some alts to suggest, let me know!
Lemmy
Everything about Lemmy; bugs, gripes, praises, and advocacy.
For discussion about the lemmy.ml instance, go to !meta@lemmy.ml.
Yep +1 for subs like /r/vinyl, /r/audiophile and /r/budgetaudiophile
If you want to see a specific community that doesn't exist, then set it up and post some content! If you want the type of places to hang out that you had on Reddit, you need to create it, nurture it, and grow it. There's no guarantee that Lemmy will be the place to land during the Reddit exodus, but it is a place to land, and a damn fine one at that. Putting my money where my mouth is, if you ever want to talk about calculators head on over to !calculators@midwest.social
I created and mod two subs on reddit, and I'd love to see them make their way over here, but I've had a child since creating those subs, and I just don't think I have the time to do it anymore, sadly. Both subs seem on-board with the blackout on the 12th though, so maybe some of their members will find their way here. Maybe I'll even point them here with a sticky on the 12th...
Definitely do a sticky! I'd be doing that for sure if I had your mod powers 😊
r/piano r/Ukraine r/linux r/linuxphones r/philosophy r/geopolitics
Linux is pretty well represented so far versus most other topics
This might be controversial, but I think the TwoX communities need space here. Don’t make them automatically appear on the front page, and hopefully their creators and moderators have the tools to keep them space but yeah, this site needs spaces like TwoXSex, TwoXChromosomes, TwoXPreppers, Beyondthebump, Mommit, Childfree, etc. I’m new here but didn’t find any of those on initial glance and like a great bar, you need women to show up and be seen/heard. Give them a safe space (see my comment on moderation tools) to transition to and I bet Lemmy would get lots of people to switch.
Also, to echo another person, we need a “master” list of communities, at least the umbrella ones. For instance /plants could be the umbrella for /botany, /trees, /gardening, etc.
Lastly, this site needs porn. Hear me out before you start judging. Nothing drives technology usage like porn. VHS and digital video are both huge because of porn driving widespread adoption. PornHub needs to spin up a server for its infinite catalog which ensures they get paid but also that minors aren’t being exploited.
Oh, feature ~~Request~~ request, some kind of incognito mode in the mobile apps which lets people view NSFW media without it being in their history. Also the app should disable built-in messaging options while in that mode to ensure fewer bad decisions and bad outcomes from accidental texts of disabled midget porn to various contacts. Just an idea I had.
I support anything creative, unfortunately I'm not seeing a lot of that yet. I build models, dioramas, scratch build buildings, etc.
I was tempted to start a general making community where all disciplines of making are supported, but as far as I can see on the app that isn't an option.
Here are the ones I'd most like to see:
- AskScience
- AskWomenOver30
- auntienetwork
- CozyPlaces
- crowbro
- EarthPorn
- FinancialIndependence
- fitness30plus
- GenX
- greyhounds and longboyes
- Guitar, JustinGuitar, LearnGuitar, and guitarporn
- hyenas
- menopause
- oldhagfashion
- personalfinance
- PetiteFashionAdvice
- Philadelphia
- rance
- retrofuturism
- RStudio
- ShitAmericansSay
- SimpleLiving
- space
- tattoos
- TeenMomOGandTeenMom2 because I love my stupid guilty pleasure trash TV lol
- TheGirlSurvivalGuide
- xxfitness
- And every single animal subreddit
I'd be keen for RStudio!
I know we're talking about moving away from Reddit but I don't see this on your list and it sounds like it might be a match for your interests --have you taken a look at /r/badwomensanatomy?
Both are a bit new and I still need moderators given the larger scale, but c/EarthPorn is now here, as is c/personalfinance
Yes, definitely personalfinance!
I'm on fucker with bad sense of humor (and transbian tendencies) so I frequent these on Reddit (and thus would be nice to have them here) r/196 r/traaa r/GaySoundsShitposts r/AnarchyChess r/actuallesbians
Throw in some anarchist communities as a bonus.
more animal pic subs
One for home theaters, and one for audiophiles.
r/PCMasterRace r/GameDeals r/Fitness r/BuildAPC
Subs that have good guides and community info
There are some subs that I'd rather see dead, and some that are just amazing, just based on their moderation and communities. r/fantasy is a shining beacon of light in an otherwise dark world, and with it a lot of the sister communities like WoT, Stormlight_archive and similar. They all have a positive feel, including and fair with just enough moderation without becoming heavy handed.
So in a sense it's not so much the content, but rather the community itself that I'd love to see persisting beyond reddit.
games, mechanicalkeyboards, fountainpens, boardgames, music, indiemusic, audio, audiophile, headphones, ....
so many!
edit: photography (how’d I forget that one?)
I’d like to see more fluffy friends! /r/rabbit, /r/furby
I would like to see r/simracing/
Cat communities are definitely a rabbit hole that is fun to go down on Reddit. Sport ones like r/NBA and r/Formula1 are some of my most used subreddits.
Loseit, maliciouscompliance, skincareaddiction, halloween, horror, ladyboners, Microdosing, workreform, truecrime, movies
I thought about creating loseit, but I'm not up for moderating something like that. I can see it getting hairy quickly.
D&D/TTRPG subs like r/DMAcademy, r/3d6, r/Pathfinder2e, r/dndnext, r/dndbehindthescreen, r/dnd, r/dndmaps, etc.
Subs related to specific games I enjoy like r/Stellaris, r/Rimworld, r/crusaderkings, r/citiesskylines, r/slaythespire
Subs where design and cool information that interests me can be shared like r/vexillology, r/history, r/mapporn, r/dataisbeautiful, r/etymology, r/todayilearned, etc.
Neurodivergence spaces like r/Aspergers, r/AutisticWithADHD, and r/autism
Subs built around a certain kind of joke or humour like r/sbubby, r/expanddong, r/Polandball, r/highqualitygifs, etc.
Neurodivergence spaces like r/Aspergers, r/AutisticWithADHD, and r/autism
definitled!
add r/HSP
All the niche communities. I've been here for a couple months now but boy is that what we need.
niche communities are [both] hard AND easy.
some niche communites have a hard time staying active on ordinary reddit. (so therefore what does that mean for lemmy's sucess rate)
on the otherhand:
reddit nich communites are such a horrific failure , in many cases, that literally one active poster would make lemmy versions massively superior to shitty mainstream reddit.
Have you tried reaching out to them to talk to them about Lemmy?
I'm surprised to find there are no adult subs popping up.
I hit up my brother in law who is involved in the adult industry and he is going to spin up an instance that's super ok with adult content in the next day or so.
Let's face it, without porn tumbler disappeared, and I think Reddit will too when it bans anything nsfw
I need some more sports communities. NFL, CFB, football/soccer, NBA, MLB, Hockey, etc. A lot of the very niche ones like certain anime (r/onepiece, r/kingdom, r/hunterxhunter) or book (r/asoiaf, r/stormlight_archive) or game (r/deadbydaylight, r/stellaris, r/EU4) probably aren't going to get high enough populations to exist here so i don't expect it. But I need the sport specific ones
I just created a OnePiece community and hope it takes off, too. Help out by discussing and posting, please! :)
