Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Succinct summary of where Harris stands on every issue vs Trump: Better.

Constructive vs. destructive

She also favored a ban on hydraulic fracturing, known as fracking, which Mr. Biden said he opposed.

This actually would be big. Most US oil and gas production is from fracking.

As California’s attorney general, Ms. Harris challenged federal approvals of offshore fracking along the California coast.

And another big source of US oil production to challenge.

But she also took positions far to the left of Mr. Biden on climate change.

That sounds really great. As does this:

price on carbon, with a dividend that would have been returned directly to households.

I hadn't been excited for the upcoming election until yesterday. Supporting Biden was a civic duty, a way to prevent the rise of a kleptocracy with fascism as its vehicle and a return to the era of robber barons and zero oversight.

Supporting Kamala, a 59yo former DA, will be my pleasure. Lfg!

A federal ban on franking would be the only way to stop franking in TX. At least one city passed an ordinance banning franking about 15 years ago and the oil companies went crying to the legislature who tripped over themselves hurrying to ban fracking bans. Same thing happened when Laredo, Austin, and another city were saving over $250K annually in water cleanup after banning single use plastic grocery bags.

there is no greater issue before humanity than this. we don't deserve to be on this earth if we are going to destroy the habitats of innocent creatures.
