Say it ain't so.
People who try to change other's minds about stuff:
- Politicians
- Activists
- Evangelists
- Marketing Dept
"Influencer" is kind of the generic term.
Influencers sell stuff to you.
Politicians sell you to stuff.
This is only news because a bunch of pre-internet-2.0 fogies don't consider "influencer" to be a "real" job, despite the fact that e.g. Erma Bombeck or Bill Bryson were essentially just pre-internet influencers.
