Mergler and other researchers studied the mothers’ umbilical cords, which had traces of their grandmothers’ mercury exposure.

[...] 80 Grassy Narrows mothers and their 162 children aged between five and 17 and found significant links between grandparents’ exposure to mercury, the mothers’ psychological distress and the grandchildren’s risk for attempted suicide.

That community is a disaster and it's understandable why given the history. I've been there a handful of times for work and hope to never return. The people are just off.
