While I love legit, informational, open-minded arguments in general, there were a couple hate-speech attacks against a recent, Belgian/Jewish-themed post here that immediately smashed our #1 rule here ("Netiquette") to bits.

Those came from two individuals in particular (same instance), and disgusted both myself and my co-mod.

I want to remind everyone here-- for anyone new to this community, it's both common-sense and classic Netiquette to suggest that if one wants to argue hard, it's best to start with some politeness where possible.

The two banned can appeal, if they like. I'm not opposed to talking things out, assuming good-faith is involved.

I also want to clarify that the original comic by no means attempted to 'pick international sides.' It was in fact an attempt to depict internal strife between people within a small community. That, and nothing more.

Simply nothing of what you (and other hexbears) claim has happened here. You guys seem to instantly turn off your brains and jump to false conclusions once you see anything related to Jewish people living their lives. The posted comic in fact depicts an argument between two Jewish neighbors, one from Europe, one from North Africa. Nothing in it is dehumanizing Palestinians or even touching the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Read the material from the first post again, this time slowly and carefully and you might still get it.

Me, most of my personal roots come what are known as the "Ancient Americas," spiced-up with conquering Euros. We are now a blend, so what? It's the new-reality; didn't you get that memo?

First you claim to be against genocide. Then you write:

What kind of mental gymnastics is that supposed to be? Obviously you are indeed in favor of genocide, as long as only Jewish people are the victims of it. Or what exactly do you think would happen to its Jewish citizens, if Israel were to “fall”, as you trivialize it?

So as you can see from that recent diatribe, there is no rational debate, no reasoning, or even the faintest hint of willingness to be civil. There is just what you allow to pollute the site. Hamas got banned from Twitter and now rots Lemmy. It is up to you whether to allow it to continue, but do not make the mistake of thinking that attitude is a one-off, or won't constantly try to get its digs in every chance it can if you do.
